First Look of iLuv's New Solution for Streaming Audio in the Bedroom

The iLuv iNT170 is an Internet radio alarm clock which lets one awake and listen to streaming Internet audio in the bedroom in addition to regular FM radio.

The average alarm clock, with its low quality FM reception and poor speakers, hardly makes for a nice bedside companion when wanting to awaken to your favorite digital music. A number of new digital devices, however, allow for enjoyment of iPod and other digital audio first thing in the morning or anytime in the bedroom. iLuv, a maker of iPod accessories, is a developer of such products and one its latest allows for Internet radio on the nightstand.

The iLuv iNT170, priced around $200, hardly looks like a typical alarm clock. It measures 13.5- x 5.8- x 6.6-inches and weighs around 5.3 pounds. It sports a nice looking display screen and a variety of controls which make it look more like something found on a starship. The speakers, instead of those wimpy little ones installed in a typical $20 alarm clock, are said instead to be big, good sounding and driven by special audio technology.

Streaming Internet Radio Chief Feature

The major highlight of the iNT170 is its ability to play Internet radio through its wired or wireless Internet connection. This device tunes into over 15,000 different Internet "radio stations" and podcasts. The display screen allows for browsing of these stations and up to 20 of them can be preset for quicker access. FM radio can also be enjoyed through this iLuv digital Internet radio alarm clock and presets can be programmed for up to 20 FM channels.

Audio options for both other audio sources and sound output are present via an auxiliary line input for connecting something like an iPod as well as a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack for hooking up those favorite ear buds. Dual alarm functionality allows for waking up to audio from Internet radio, FM radio or a buzzer, while a sleep function drifts one off to Internet or FM music.

Other features of the iLuv iNT170 include a three-step LCD dimmer level control, automatic updates from the Internet to keep time on the clock current and digital FM tuning.
